ActionAid Commends Tinubu on Flyover Construction Remarks

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent statement urging state governors to cease the construction of unnecessary flyovers in locations lacking traffic congestion. This remark was made during a meeting with a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State, led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who congratulated the president on the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire local government in Oyo State.

Dr Andrew Mamedu, the country director of ActionAid, stated that the president's comments opened the door for a broader national discussion regarding public finance, emphasizing that the allocation of public resources should prioritize the needs of citizens over prestige projects. Mamedu highlighted the importance of ensuring that public expenditures deliver tangible benefits, especially during a time of economic hardship for many Nigerians.

He called for a review of government spending practices that yield little public benefit, including unnecessary luxury projects and excessive official travel.
