Surge in Transport Costs at Lagos Airport Amid E-Hailing Ban

Passengers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos are experiencing transport costs up to five times higher than usual following the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria's (FAAN) decision to suspend e-hailing platforms, including Uber and Bolt, from the airport vicinity. A passenger named Chude reported paying N30,000 for a taxi to the Radisson Hotel in Ikeja, a journey that typically costs N6,000 on InDrive.

This fare disparity has sparked public criticism, with another traveller, Tosin, urging FAAN and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to intervene. FAAN clarified that the situation arose from unauthorized signage and ongoing negotiations with operators regarding vehicle standards, passenger-tracking systems, and fare structures.

Despite FAAN's statements, passengers have noted a significant reduction in transport options, prompting some to walk beyond the airport perimeter to book rides through e-hailing apps or use InDrive for cheaper fares.
