FAAN Clarifies N30,000 Taxi Fare at Lagos Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a statement clarifying that the controversial N30,000 taxi fare for trips from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, was not a new rate imposed by the authority or introduced through its Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS). This clarification, signed by FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, came amid public criticism following a video by travel content creator Chris Joondeph, known as Authentic Travelling.

FAAN noted that the same journey was listed at N6,900 on another e-hailing platform, with Uber quoting N4,200 for UberX and N5,800 for its Priority option. FAAN explained that the taxi fares had existed independently and were not substantially different from previous rates.

The authority acknowledged that comparisons with lower e-hailing fares heightened public concern. Additionally, FAAN announced it had resolved operational issues with Bolt, allowing the e-hailing company to resume services at its managed airports, emphasizing its support for competition in airport transportation.
