Trial of Alleged Killers of ARISE News Anchor Commences in Abuja Court

The trial of the alleged killers of ARISE News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, began at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja. The defendants, including a security guard named Barnaba Danladi, are accused of being involved in the violent robbery that led to Maduagwu's death on September 29, 2025, in Katampe Extension, Abuja.

The prosecution has presented two witnesses, Sani Yusuf and Fatou Toborteh, who provided harrowing testimonies of the events surrounding the robbery and murder. The trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, ordered the defendants to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Center until the trial dates of February 9, 10, and 12.

However, on February 9, the defendants claimed they were not aware of the trial date, leading to a delay in proceedings. The witnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal of the robbery, with Yusuf describing the chaos and violence that ensued.

The trial is ongoing as the prosecution continues to call additional witnesses to testify.
