Tricycle Ticket Seller Sentenced to Life for Attempted Murder

Ibora Sundai Akpan was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery by the Akwa Ibom State High Court, presided over by Justice Augustin D. Odokwo.

The prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to a conviction on three counts. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 23, 2025, at an estate in Ikot Otor, Ikot Ekpen.

Eyewitness Barr. Camillu Ben testified that he was awakened by a loud bang and confronted an unmasked intruder, later identified as Akpan, who had been known to him for years.

Akpan sustained gunshot injuries during the robbery when police responded to a distress call. The court dismissed Akpan's defense of mistaken identity and lack of involvement, stating that the evidence against him was substantial.

Justice Odokwo emphasized the violent nature of the crime, which nearly resulted in the victim's death, and ordered the destruction of the recovered firearm.
