Ekiti Court Sentences Two Kidnappers to Death

On April 22, 2022, the Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced two individuals, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, to death by hanging for their roles in a kidnapping case involving Omoboad Adesina, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps. The court, presided over by Chief Judge Lekan Ogunmoy, found the evidence against the two defendants sufficient to warrant the death penalty.

However, the third defendant, Usman Abubakar, was discharged due to insufficient evidence linking him to the abduction case. The prosecution was carried out by the Department of State Services (DSS).

This ruling follows a previous death sentence handed down by the Sokoto High Court against three men convicted of terrorism and cross-border arms proliferation related to kidnapping activities in Kogi State.
