Motorcyclist Sentenced to Life for Raping Nursing Mother

Japhet, a motorcyclist, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a nursing mother by Justice Archibong in Akwa Ibom State. The crime occurred on February 23, 2015, when the victim, a fruit seller, boarded his motorcycle at Ekom Iman Junction in Uyo.

Japhet, under the pretense of taking her home, diverted the route, threatened her with a knife, and forcibly took her purse containing ₦7,000 and a phone. Despite the victim's pleas, he raped her and threatened to stab her if she did not comply.

The following morning, the victim returned to Ekom Iman Junction, where she spotted Japhet and alerted her husband, leading to his immediate apprehension. The victim's phone was recovered during this process.

Justice Archibong's judgment concluded an 11-year-old case, with Japhet also receiving a three-year sentence for theft.
