Nigerian Troops Achieve Major Success Against Oil Theft

From April 1 to April 26, 2026, troops of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army conducted operations in the Niger Delta, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects involved in oil theft. The operations led to the deactivation of ten illegal refining sites and the confiscation of 130,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 26,000 liters of automotive gas oil.

Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, reported that the operations destroyed products worth approximately N250,000,000. Significant discoveries included an abandoned truck loaded with 45,000 liters of stolen products and several reservoirs containing stolen crude oil.

The troops also uncovered various illegal siphoning setups and destroyed numerous sacks filled with stolen oil. The operations were part of a broader effort to combat oil theft in the region, with troops effectively dominating areas in Bayelsa State.
