Trump Urges UK PM Burnham to Address Illegal Migration

United States President Donald Trump called on British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to confront the issue of illegal migration, describing it as “killing” the United Kingdom. In an interview with GB News, Trump emphasized that Burnham would eventually need to address immigration, despite initially avoiding the topic after taking office.

His remarks coincided with reports of over 500 migrants crossing the English Channel into Britain, facilitated by people smugglers launching boats from the French and Belgian coasts. Trump criticized the previous Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, for doing little to tackle the issue.

He noted that Burnham faced significant challenges and described their recent phone conversation as “interesting” and “went very well.” Trump also urged Burnham to expand North Sea oil drilling to improve the UK’s economic situation. Concerns were raised regarding Burnham’s appointment of Ed Miliband as Foreign Secretary due to Miliband's past criticisms of Trump.

The two leaders have maintained stable relations in Burnham's early weeks in office.
