Trump Fires DHS Chief Kristi Noem Amid Immigration Critique

On Thursday, Donald Trump dismissed Kristi Noem from her position as head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after her Senate testimony concerning a $220 million advertising campaign that featured her prominently. Noem, who was appointed as a special envoy for new security initiatives in the Western Hemisphere, faced bipartisan criticism during the Senate hearing.

Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, condemned the DHS's immigration crackdown under Noem's leadership, questioning her moral compass and respect for the rule of law. He specifically referenced the deaths of two Americans during protests against immigration policies.

Republican Senators Thom Tillis and John Kennedy also criticized Noem, with Tillis calling her leadership disastrous and Kennedy questioning the effectiveness of the advertising campaign aimed at encouraging undocumented migrants to self-deport. Following Noem's dismissal, Trump nominated Markwayne Mullin to succeed her, emphasizing the need for strong border security and a commitment to removing millions of undocumented migrants from the U.S.
