Trump Dismisses Iran's Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump rejected a proposal from Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping within seven days, which was part of a plan to end hostilities in the Middle East. Trump confirmed this rejection on Saturday, stating, “I reject their proposal.” The proposal, presented by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, required the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, ease sanctions on Iranian oil, and observe a ceasefire in the region, including Lebanon.

Araghchi indicated that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the seventh day after the US accepted the proposal. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian noted that the proposal was developed in coordination with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

At the UN, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan criticized the international community's failure to ensure the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing its importance to global energy security.
