PDP Accuses INEC of Undermining Jonathan's Candidacy

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plotting to hijack the party and replace its presidential candidate, former President Goodluck Jonathan, ahead of the 2027 general elections. This allegation was made in a press statement by Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee.

Ememobong stated that the PDP has submitted its list of candidates to INEC, including Jonathan, but the commission has refused to recognize the interim leadership established after a Supreme Court judgment. The PDP has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel INEC to recognize its interim committee, criticizing a judgment by Justice Salim Oluwasupo Ibrahim as inconsistent with higher court decisions.

Ememobong also raised concerns about the delay in releasing the Certified True Copy of the judgment and alleged that INEC has failed to act neutrally, creating a perception of bias against the party.
