Turaki-Led PDP Plans Legal Action Against INEC Over Wike Faction Recognition

The Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to take legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognizing the Nyesom Wike-backed caretaker committee. The Turaki faction criticized INEC's recognition of Wike's faction as unconstitutional.

Following a Federal High Court ruling nullifying the PDP national convention held in November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and others were restrained from parading themselves as national party officials. Despite this, Nyesom Wike, along with Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu, continued to act as the party's chairman and secretary, respectively.

Wike's faction appointed a 13-member caretaker committee, prompting legal battles as the 2027 general elections approach. The Turaki-led PDP National Working Committee (NWC) announced plans to appeal the court ruling and explore legal remedies.

The Wike faction welcomed the court judgment and pledged to organize a fresh national convention to elect new NWC members.
