PDP Leadership Clash in Ekiti Over Governorship Candidacy

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is currently facing a leadership clash in Ekiti State between factions loyal to Nyesom Wike and Taminu Turaki. The Turaki-led group claims to represent the authentic leadership of the PDP in the state and has endorsed Wole Oluyed as their governorship candidate for the upcoming June 20 elections.

However, Wike's faction disputes this claim, insisting that the authentic PDP structure does not recognize Oluyed's candidacy. In a press briefing, Turaki's group, represented by state chairman Tunji Odeyemi, dismissed Wike's bloc as unconstitutional and stated that their recent congress was not binding.

Odeyemi referenced a Federal High Court judgment affirming Oluyed's candidacy and emphasized that there was no court order dissolving their leadership. The Wike faction, led by Lanr Omolas, countered these claims, stating that the Turaki faction's state working committee was improperly constituted and that Oluyed's candidacy was not formally recognized by the party.
