Supreme Court Rules on PDP Leadership Dispute

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered a split judgment regarding the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), with a 3-2 decision that upheld a previous ruling from the Court of Appeal. This ruling nullified a convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025, led by Saminu Turaki.

The court found that the convention violated existing court orders and thus lacked legitimacy. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, responded to the ruling, asserting that it clarified the party's leadership issues and emphasized that there is no faction within the PDP.

He rejected claims of division and stated that the Supreme Court's decision brought clarity to the situation. Additionally, Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, welcomed the ruling, affirming David Mark's leadership within the PDP and urging party members to remain steadfast in their struggle for Nigeria's future.
