Turaki Faction Seeks Supreme Court Restraint on PDP Convention

The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has filed an application with the Supreme Court to restrain a convention supported by Nyesom Wike, set for March 29-30, 2025. This legal action follows a recent judgment from the Court of Appeal that upheld the nullification of a national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025.

The appeal was filed on Friday, challenging the previous ruling by the Federal High Court, which the Turaki faction argues lacked jurisdiction over the matter. The Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Jame Omotosho, found the appeal to lack merit and resolved four issues against the PDP faction.

The court affirmed the October 31 ruling, which granted relief to the plaintiffs, including an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcomes of the Ibadan convention. The ongoing internal crisis within the PDP continues to deepen as the faction prepares for its proposed national convention.
