Nigeria and Singapore Collaborate to Train 120 TVET Teachers

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with Singapore, has initiated a capacity-building program to train 120 Nigerian teachers in technical and vocational education (TVET). This program, organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), consists of two cohorts, with the first cohort of 60 teachers currently undergoing training in Abuja, while the second cohort is scheduled to participate in Lagos.

Adebayo Onigbanjo, the national coordinator of the special program, explained that the initiative aims to equip Nigerian educators with modern pedagogical skills to enhance teaching methods and ultimately benefit students nationwide. The program is part of a broader effort by the Nigerian government to strengthen the TVET sector, which is seen as a key driver for economic growth and job creation.

The training focuses on practical, competency-based teaching methods rather than theoretical approaches, preparing students for the workforce. The initiative is expected to create a multiplier effect through peer-to-peer training among instructors.
