Twin Fire Outbreaks Damage Shops and Homes in Ilorin

On Monday, two fire outbreaks occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, affecting shops and a residential building. The first incident happened at 01:50 hours in the Gaa Akanbi area, where ten container shops were impacted, with five suffering severe damage.

The Kwara State Fire Service, led by spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, responded swiftly to contain the situation. Preliminary investigations indicated that a power surge ignited combustible materials stored within the affected shops.

The second incident occurred at 10:56 hours on Ladipo Street, affecting a twin flat comprising four bedrooms and a sitting room. Investigations revealed that this fire also originated from a power surge linked to a power changeover switch.

Alabi Muham, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, urged residents to prioritize proper electrical installations and maintenance. The service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Kwara State and emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness.
