Fire Outbreak Destroys Shops in Ilorin, Kwara State

On Saturday, September 11, a fire outbreak occurred at a residential building located at No. 61 Ita Ogunbo Area, Pakata Road, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. The incident involved a structure comprising eight rooms and five shops, with one shop significantly affected by the fire.

The Kwara State Fire Service, represented by Mr. Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident and reported that their team responded promptly, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials within the affected shop. CF Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, advised residents and business owners to ensure the use of standard electrical installations and surge protectors, and to avoid leaving electrical appliances unattended during unstable power supply.

He emphasized the importance of equipping premises with portable fire extinguishers to tackle fires at early stages.
