Fire Caused by Power Surge Razes Shops in Ilorin

On Sunday, October 28, at 4:56 AM, a fire incident occurred on Ijoro Street off Asa Dam Road in Ilorin, Kwara State, affecting a building that comprised a two-bedroom flat and seven shops. The Kwara State Fire Service responded promptly and successfully contained the blaze, preventing its spread to nearby residential areas.

According to a statement from the agency's public relations officer, Hassan Adekunle, preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was likely caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials within the shops. Alabi Muham, the director of the fire service, urged residents and business owners to adopt safety measures to prevent similar incidents, including the installation of surge protectors, avoiding overload of electrical outlets, and conducting regular checks on electrical systems.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and properties across the state. This incident adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks in Ilorin, including a vehicle fire at Phoenix Hotel in the Ilorin South Local Government Area.
