Twins and Two Others Sentenced for Highway Robbery

On Wednesday, the Ikeja Special Offences Court sentenced twins Taiwo Ojomo and Kehind Ojomo, both aged 34, along with 34-year-old Emmanuel Bamidel and 27-year-old Peter Samuel, to 14 years’ imprisonment each for highway robbery. The convicts had initially pleaded not guilty when arraigned in 2020 but later changed their plea to guilty following an amended charge and a plea bargain agreement.

Justice Olubunmi Abik-Fadip noted that the plea bargain provided for a reduced sentence of 14 years instead of 21 years. The court was satisfied that the convicts voluntarily consented to the plea bargain.

The robbery occurred on June 5, 2020, at approximately 11:30 PM in Oshodi, Lagos, where the convicts, armed and pretending to be stranded, assaulted and robbed their victim, Sadiq Ezekiel, of an Android phone, an iPhone, an ATM card, and N15,000 in cash. The offense contravened Section 298(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
