El-Rufai Remains in EFCC Custody Amid Corruption Probe

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has spent a second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as investigations into alleged corruption amounting to N432 billion proceed. El-Rufai arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday around 10 AM for questioning related to the allegations.

His lawyer, Mustapha San, is advocating for his release on bail, emphasizing that El-Rufai is a responsible citizen and not a flight risk. The EFCC is reportedly seeking a remand order to extend his custody to facilitate further questioning.

The investigation is linked to a report from an ad hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which is probing financial loans and contracts awarded during El-Rufai's administration from 2015 to 2023. Allegations include the misuse of loans and public funds, with recommendations for prosecution against El-Rufai and former cabinet members.

El-Rufai denies the allegations, asserting that the loans were properly utilized for infrastructure and public services.
