Delta Communities Demand N50bn Compensation for Oil Pollution

Two Ijaw communities, Opuama and Polobubo Tsekelewu in Delta State, are demanding N50 billion in compensation from NEPL and ELCREST due to environmental degradation caused by oil spills and hazardous waste dumping in the OML 40 field. The communities accuse the companies of failing to clean up the spills despite repeated appeals.

Save Earth Secure Future (SESF), an NGO based in Warri, supports the communities' demands, highlighting the severe health and environmental impacts. The communities have issued press statements and notified international bodies about the companies' alleged environmental negligence.
