Waymo Vehicle Incident Leads to Juvenile Arrests in SF

On September 3, shortly before 4 am, two juveniles were arrested in San Francisco's Richmond District after police discovered a loaded AR-style assault rifle, suspected marijuana, and mace spray inside a Waymo autonomous vehicle. The San Francisco Police Department reported that the vehicle was stopped following a violation of Waymo's terms of service involving a firearm.

Waymo confirmed its involvement, stating that it detected the violation and contacted emergency services, cooperating fully with the police. The two passengers, identified only as a boy and a girl, were taken into custody and transported to a juvenile hall.

The investigation remains "open and active" as authorities examine the circumstances of the incident. This is not the first time Waymo has alerted authorities about passenger-related incidents; in July, the company reported teenagers drinking alcohol and firing toy guns in one of its vehicles.
