Two Sentenced to Death for Kidnapping in Bayelsa

On Thursday, the Bayelsa State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Matilda Ayemiey, sentenced two men, Mr.

Felix Oburu from Omoku in Ogba Egbema Local Government Area and Mr. Anthoni Kio Eligw from Oyigba in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State, to death by hanging for the kidnapping of Mr.

Omietimi's mother. The abduction occurred on September 17, 2017, and the victim was held captive in Oyigba for several weeks until her release following a ransom payment.

The Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended the defendants after an intelligence-led operation tracked their activities. During the trial, the victim provided a detailed account of her ordeal and identified Mr.

Anthoni Kio Eligw as one of her captors, corroborating the testimony of DSS investigators. The court upheld the prosecution's case, finding the defendants guilty of the charges against them.
