Man Sentenced to Death for Murder in Osun State

On October 11, 2023, Taiwo Agboola, aged 30, killed 62-year-old Jadesola Olubayo at a palm oil processing site located by the Amula River in Olokemeji Village, Ifetedo, within the Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State. Agboola was arraigned on three counts: attempted rape, indecent assault, and murder, violating sections 359, 360, and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Laws of Osun State 2002.

His trial began on November 7, 2024, where the prosecution, led by Ajibola Alad and Omotayo Babalola from the Ministry of Justice, presented four witnesses. The court heard that Agboola had stripped naked and attacked Olubayo, causing panic among two women present.

Latifat Adeyemo, Olubayo's granddaughter, testified that Agboola overpowered her grandmother and subsequently killed her with a stone. Justice Adedapo Adeniji ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to Agboola's conviction and sentencing to death for murder, alongside lesser sentences for the other charges.
