Senator Natasha Calls for Visa Review for South African Artists

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central senatorial district, called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to review visa applications from South African artists. This request was made in light of growing calls from Nigerians to boycott South African singer Tyla’s concert in Lagos, following reports of violence against Nigerians in South Africa.

The senator's comments were prompted by the denial of visas to Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and her team, which resulted in the cancellation of their performance in South Africa. In her statement, Senator Natasha emphasized that if the visa denial is confirmed, Nigeria should respond with equivalent measures to ensure fair treatment for its citizens.

She clarified that her stance was not a personal attack on Tyla but a call for Nigeria to uphold diplomatic principles of mutual respect and reciprocity in international relations, asserting that Nigeria must protect the dignity of its citizens abroad.
