Flying Eagles Fall 2-0 to Burkina Faso, Still Advance

On Sunday, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles faced a 2-0 defeat against Burkina Faso in their final group match of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship. Despite the loss, the Flying Eagles progressed to the semi-finals as Group B runners-up, having previously secured a 4-2 victory over Ghana and a 3-0 win against Togo.

Burkina Faso, who finished top of the group with seven points from three matches, took the lead in the 23rd minute through Alassana Bagayogo's header from a corner. They doubled their advantage in the 36th minute with a superb free-kick from Mohamed Zongo.

Although the Flying Eagles improved in the second half, they struggled to create clear chances against a compact Burkina Faso defense. The outcome means Burkina Faso will face Niger in one semi-final, while Nigeria will take on hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the other.

The winners of both semi-finals will qualify for the final and secure spots at the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Ghana.
