UBA Launches Climate Action Week to Promote Sustainability
United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc (NGX: UBA) has initiated a Group-wide Climate Action Week from October 26 to 30, 2026, themed “Banking on Africa’s Climate Future.” This campaign aims to enhance climate awareness, promote responsible environmental practices, and advance sustainable finance across UBA's operations. The initiative began with the introduction of waste segregation bins in UBA offices and efforts to minimize single-use plastics at the Bank's head offices.
UBA will share educational content on climate change's causes and effects through its media and digital platforms. Additionally, UBA staff volunteers will engage in a clean-up exercise on November 7 in major cities, including Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt, to foster cleaner communities.
Oliver Alawuba, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, stated that climate change significantly impacts everyday life in Africa, affecting food prices, energy demand, and causing flooding.
