Uba Sani Leads North-west Electricity Transformation

Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, is spearheading a significant transformation in the North-west's electricity sector, driven by the Electricity Act of 2023. This legislation allows states to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within their jurisdictions, marking a shift from a centralized power supply model.

During the Energy Investment Summit in London on April 1, 2023, Sani articulated a vision for energy security in the region, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts among states within the Kaduna electricity franchise, which includes Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states. The summit gathered various stakeholders, including Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State, and Nasiru Idri, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State.

Sani's leadership aims to address the challenges of electricity supply, such as technical losses and revenue constraints, while inviting investments to bridge the supply-demand gap. The forthcoming Kaduna State Electricity Law is expected to establish a robust legal framework to support these initiatives.
