Uba Sani Chooses Christian Running Mate for Election

Uba Sani, the current governor of Kaduna, has opted for a Christian running mate in a significant shift from the Muslim-Muslim ticket established by his predecessor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. This decision is part of a strategy to create a 'faith balanced' ticket, reflecting the religious sensitivities in the state.

Historically, since 1999, governors of Kaduna paired with deputies of different faiths until El-Rufai's second term in 2019 when he chose Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, a Muslim, as his running mate.

As Sani prepares for his second term, he faces constitutional limitations preventing Balarabe from serving again. Sources indicate that Sani has prioritized a balanced faith ticket, acknowledging the importance of representation for Southern Kaduna Christians while also considering the implications of a Muslim running mate.
