UBEC Distributes 100,000 Educational Materials Nationwide

On Tuesday, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) launched the distribution of 100,000 instructional materials to combat the out-of-school crisis in Nigeria. The initiative, flagged off at the UBEC zonal office in Kaduna by Deputy Executive Secretary Technical Rasaq Olajuwon Akinyemi, aims to enhance data management and improve learning outcomes in non-formal learning centers, particularly for high school children in the North West, North East, North Central, and South West zones.

The materials include enrollment records, lesson plans, and assessment guides to support literacy and numeracy instruction and facilitate the reintegration of pupils into the formal school system. Akinyemi emphasized the need for state governments to prioritize IQTE learners and ensure consistent counterpart funding.

UBEC's strategy also includes community engagement to expand access to non-formal education pathways. Adamu Gurama, Director of Social Mobilization at UBEC, noted the importance of bridging religious and secular learning to equip almajiri and tsangaya pupils with essential skills while preserving Qur'anic values.
