UBEC Distributes 100,000 IQTE Materials to Schools

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) launched the distribution of 100,000 Integrated Qur'anic Tsangaya Education (IQTE) materials on Tuesday at its zonal office in Kaduna. The initiative, led by Deputy Executive Secretary Technical Rasaq Olajuwon Akinyemi, aims to tackle the out-of-school crisis by enhancing data management and improving learning outcomes for children in non-formal learning centers across Nigeria.

The materials include enrollment forms, attendance registers, lesson plans, and assessment records to support literacy and numeracy instruction. Akinyemi highlighted that the initiative builds on previous IQTE interventions that provided classroom furniture and sanitation facilities to hundreds of centers benefiting 69,000 learners nationwide.

However, he expressed concern over the heavy reliance on federal support due to inconsistent counterpart funding from states. UBEC's strategy includes prioritizing IQTE learners and addressing challenges in school enrollment, teacher development, and community engagement to facilitate access to non-formal education pathways.

The program aims to integrate Qur'anic education into Nigeria's basic education framework.
