Nigeria Distributes 15 Million Learner Kits Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a nationwide distribution of 15 million learner support kits to address the out-of-school crisis affecting vulnerable pupils across the country. The flag-off ceremony took place in Makurdi, Benue State, coinciding with the 2026 Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Basic Education Summit.

Dr. Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), emphasized the administration's commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismantle barriers preventing millions of Nigerian children from accessing education. The distribution of 1,155,900 school kits, which includes school bags, sandals, pencils, and exercise books, targets pupils from low-income households.

This initiative is part of a broader intervention to alleviate financial burdens on parents, boost enrollment, and improve retention rates within the basic education system. Dr. Garba praised Benue State Governor Rev. Hyacinth Alia for prioritizing basic education and highlighted ongoing collaborations to enhance educational access and infrastructure.
