74-Year-Old Arrested for Cocaine Smuggling at Abuja Airport

On March 14, 2026, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, a 74-year-old man, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. He allegedly attempted to smuggle 11 kilograms of cocaine concealed within food items, including ground dry pepper, as he prepared to board British Airways flight BA082 bound for London Heathrow Airport.

The arrest occurred during a luggage search, which revealed blocks of cocaine wrapped in foil paper and balloons. Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, confirmed the details in a statement issued on Sunday following the arrest.

Emeka claimed he was traveling to the UK for vacation. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and maintain security at Nigerian airports.
