UK Demands Iran Halt Inflammatory Social Media Posts

On Tuesday, the UK Foreign Office summoned Iran's ambassador to demand that Iranian embassies cease posting inflammatory messages on social media that could incite violence. Hamish Falcon, the UK Minister for the Middle East, criticized a particular post from the Iranian embassy's Telegram site, which called for Iranian citizens to participate in a "self-sacrifice" campaign for their homeland.

This post, dated April 15, urged citizens to join a campaign to defend Iran, with the hashtag "janafada" trending on social media. Iranian President Masoud Pezehskian noted that approximately 14 million Iranians had registered to participate in this campaign.

The UK government condemned these messages as unacceptable and inflammatory, emphasizing that they could be interpreted as encouraging violence against the UK and its allies.
