UK Envoy Praises Kwara Governor for Gender Inclusion Efforts

Gill Lever, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, commended Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts in promoting gender inclusion and digital skills development during her visit to Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin. In a statement signed by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola, Lever noted that AbdulRazaq's administration has appointed women to 50% of cabinet positions and supports a special seat bill for women, emphasizing the importance of women's representation in political life for Nigeria's economic development.

She also acknowledged the UK government's partnership with the state to improve digital skills among young people in the technology sector. Lever assessed the impact of UK-backed interventions at an innovation hub in Ilorin, which aims to develop tech skills and create opportunities for young innovators.

She mentioned that the UK government's digital access program is expected to benefit 50,000 residents in the Olayinka Ifelodun local government area. Lever reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.
