UK Home Office Introduces Citizenship Fee Waiver for Kids

The UK Home Office has outlined two methods for children under 18 to apply for a British citizenship fee waiver, providing a formal route for families unable to afford the application costs due to financial hardship. Eligible children must have parents or guardians who cannot cover the fee due to circumstances such as inability to afford basic housing or essential living costs.

The two application routes are online and postal, each with distinct requirements. Online applicants must upload identity documents and financial information, while postal applicants need to complete a Child Citizenship Fee Waiver Request Form.

Once submitted, the Home Office will confirm receipt via email. If approved, applicants receive a "token" to use for the citizenship application.

Parents or guardians can apply on behalf of multiple children, easing the process for larger families. Notably, children in local authority care should not apply for the waiver but submit evidence of their care arrangement with their citizenship application.
