UK Citizenship Fee Waiver Process for Children Explained

The UK Government has provided guidance on how children under 18 who are eligible for British citizenship can apply for a fee waiver if they cannot afford the citizenship application fee. Eligible applicants must be under 18 and can apply online or by post, with parents or legal guardians permitted to apply on their behalf.

A child can become a British citizen if one of their parents has become a British citizen or obtained indefinite leave to remain in the UK after the child's birth. Fee waivers are available if the applicant and their guardian cannot pay due to lack of housing, inability to afford essential living costs, or if paying the fee would compromise the child's needs.

Applications from Guernsey or Jersey must be submitted by post, while those from the Isle of Man cannot currently apply for this waiver. Applicants must provide identity documents and financial information, and the Home Office will confirm receipt of the application via email.
