Ukrainian Drone Strike Hits Moscow Oil Refinery

On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone struck a major oil refinery located just outside Moscow, triggering a fire and causing damage to the facility. The attack is claimed by Ukrainian authorities as a form of retribution for Russia's ongoing strikes against Ukraine.

Reports indicate that this strike is part of a broader pattern of Ukrainian drone attacks, with 600 drones and 70 missiles launched across the country in recent days, resulting in at least 11 fatalities and damage to a UNESCO-listed Orthodox monastery in Kyiv. Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that 60 drones were launched towards Moscow, with the city successfully intercepting them.

The refinery, owned by the energy giant Gazprom, is situated in the southeastern Kapotnya area of the capital. This incident marks a significant escalation in the conflict, as it demonstrates Ukraine's long-range capabilities, with the refinery being approximately 500 kilometers (310 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

Social media footage showed the drone flying over residential blocks before exploding in the industrial area.
