UN Calls for Investigation into Nigeria, Chad Airstrikes

The United Nations, represented by rights chief Volker Turk, has demanded independent investigations into recent airstrikes in Nigeria and Chad that have led to significant civilian casualties. The Nigerian airstrike on a market reportedly killed at least 100 civilians, while a Chadian airstrike in Nigeria resulted in the deaths of several fishermen.

Turk emphasized the necessity for Nigerian and Chadian authorities to conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into these disturbing incidents. He underscored the importance of holding those responsible for violations accountable in accordance with international standards.
