PETROAN Criticizes NNPC Boss Over Refinery Comments, Calls for Transparency

The Petroleum Product Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) criticized the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Bayo Ojulari, for his recent comments on the Dangote Refinery and the Port Harcourt Refineries. Ojulari reportedly stated that NNPC does not have the capacity to operate refineries efficiently, leading to wastage of resources.

PETROAN described Ojulari's remarks as unreasonable and unacceptable, highlighting concerns over NNPC's failure to revive moribund refineries despite significant public funds invested. Dr.

Joseph Obel, a spokesperson for PETROAN, emphasized the need for transparency in managing national assets and criticized NNPC's leadership for undermining investor confidence and Nigeria's energy security. The ongoing shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the operational challenges faced by state-owned refineries have raised alarm within the industry.

PETROAN plans to engage stakeholders and explore legal options if NNPC fails to restart the Port Harcourt Refinery by March 1, 2026.
