Unauthorized Flight from Asaba Raises Aviation Security Concerns

An unauthorized flight incident occurred in Nigeria's aviation sector when a private aircraft attempted to land at Asaba Airport but missed its approach and landed on a roadway near Ogwashi Uku on Tuesday morning, approximately at 07:43 local time. The aircraft, carrying four crew members, was safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

However, the aircraft subsequently departed the location around 11:02 GMT, returning to Lagos without obtaining the necessary regulatory clearance from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Michael Achimugu, the NCAA's Director of Public Affairs, confirmed the suspension of the aircraft's operating permit pending a full investigation.

The incident raised significant security concerns, with former military commander John Ojikutu emphasizing the need for an investigation to determine if anyone disembarked during the unauthorized landing. The NCAA is conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and has grounded the aircraft upon its arrival in Lagos.
