Tinubu's Bid for Trump's Endorsement Fails Ahead of 2027

A United States-based lobbying firm, Von-Batten-Montague-York, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu's attempts to obtain an endorsement from former US President Donald Trump for the upcoming 2027 Nigerian presidential election have collapsed. The firm announced on its X account that a planned meeting between Tinubu and Trump at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York will not occur.

It stated that Tinubu's primary goal was to secure Trump's support, and it criticized the cancellation as unfortunate, especially after an alleged expenditure of $9 million in Nigerian taxpayer money on the lobbying effort. The firm expressed hope that Tinubu would reconsider his decision not to attend the UN General Assembly, where Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria's delegation.

Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria's national statement and engage in high-level meetings on various issues, including climate action, during the assembly scheduled from September 22 to 28.
