Trump-Tinubu Meeting at UNGA Cancelled Over Drug Allegations

Von Batten-Montague-York, a U.S.-based lobbying firm, announced that a proposed private meeting between Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly will not take place.

The firm cited allegations linking Tinubu to heroin trafficking as the reason for Trump's refusal to meet. They stated, “Key members of the #Trump Administration have made it clear that President Trump is not going to meet privately with an alleged heroin trafficker.” Despite this, Tinubu is expected to attend the UN General Assembly in New York, as his position as Nigeria’s President grants him access and transit protections.

The firm also claimed that due to an alleged deal made with federal authorities in the 1990s, Tinubu cannot be prosecuted for his alleged heroin-trafficking crimes. This announcement coincides with ongoing legal disputes in the U.S. regarding the release of FBI records related to investigations involving Tinubu from the early 1990s, including a civil forfeiture case concerning approximately $460,000.
