UniAbuja Law Student Wins $1,000 in Speech Contest

Amra Onize Salihu, a 500-level law student at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), won the 9th Inter-Universities Speech Contest organized by the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) on July 22, 2026, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Salihu excelled against contestants from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana, securing the title after emerging victorious in the national selection conducted by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

For her achievement, she received a Winner’s Plaque, a Certificate of Honour, and a cash prize of $1,000. Another law student from UniAbuja, Abah Goodness Ojonoma, attended the competition as an observer.

The coaching team included Dr Nasiru Mukhtar, the Director of the Law Clinic, and Mr J. R.

Gogol from the NFIU. The Vice-Chancellor of UniAbuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, commended the students and faculty for their contributions to this achievement, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence for the university's global visibility.
