UNICAL Seeks MTN Support for Sports and Infrastructure

Offiong Offiong, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has appealed to MTN Nigeria for a strategic partnership to enhance the university's sports and digital infrastructure. During a courtesy visit from MTN representatives, Offiong highlighted the university's ongoing reforms, including staff promotions and the digitization of academic documents.

He identified poor network connectivity on campus as a significant challenge affecting these initiatives and urged MTN Nigeria to assist in improving the network infrastructure. Offiong emphasized the university's commitment to maintaining academic standards alongside sports development, revealing plans to host the NUGA games later this year.

He expressed optimism that collaboration with MTN would help develop and sustain sports facilities, avoiding the issues faced after the last NUGA games hosted in 1990. MTN Nigeria's Chief Marketing Officer, Onyiny Ikenna Emeka, reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting youth athletes, noting previous successful initiatives, including the MTN Athlete Train Program.
