UNICEF Delivers Nutrition Commodities to Bauchi State

UNICEF handed over 19,981 cartons of nutrition commodities to the Bauchi State government to support the fight against child malnutrition. The supplies include 4,562 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) for treating severe acute malnutrition in children aged six to 59 months, and 15,419 cartons of lipid-based nutrient supplements (LNS) aimed at preventing malnutrition in children aged six to 23 months.

The handover ceremony took place at the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) headquarters, where the state governor, Bala Mohammed, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services. Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau emphasized the importance of improving reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition, immunization, and primary healthcare services.

The Bauchi State government has pledged to contribute N300 million to the 2025 Child Nutrition Fund and match a planned grant of N500 million in 2026 to further enhance nutrition interventions, adhering to the Abuja Declaration's recommendation to allocate at least 15 percent of the total state budget to the health sector.
