UNICEF Launches Gender Transformative Parenting Programme

The Gender Transformative Positive Parenting Programme 1.0 was launched in Ekiti State, Nigeria, by UNICEF, Value Female Network Africa, and the Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. This initiative is part of a broader Positive Parenting Programme benefiting six states in Nigeria.

The implementation began with a two-day intensive training for community facilitators on August 26-27, 2026. These facilitators will subsequently lead a 10-week community parenting school, directly reaching around 800 parents and caregivers.

The programme aims to extend key parenting and child protection messages to over 16,000 individuals through household engagement and community knowledge sharing. Participants will gain skills in various areas, including positive parenting, child development, and prevention of harmful practices.

Mr Denis Onose, UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, emphasized the importance of parents and caregivers in child protection, while Dr Costly Aderibigbe Saba, Executive Director of Value Female Network Africa, described the initiative as a landmark opportunity for families.
