Nigerian University Unions Issue Strike Notice Over Unresolved Labor Disputes

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have issued a 7-day strike notice to the Federal Government due to unresolved labor issues. The unions highlighted issues such as withheld salaries, earned allowances, and stalled salary increments dating back to a 2009 agreement.

Despite previous agreements, a promised payment of N50 billion earned allowance has not been fulfilled. The unions expressed dissatisfaction with the tripartite committee's failure to address the skewed sharing of the allowance.

The Minister of Education had pledged to resolve the matter, but the unions claim the committee did not deliver on its mandate.
